The Oldest Question: Why does suffering exist?

Life, both bio-life and soul-life, experiences suffering. The bio-life begins at birth, extends throughout life in form form or degree, and ends at death. Soul-life suffering emerges within life, and is the object of our never ending attempts at reconciliation, and, we hope, ends at death, but have no capacity to know if such is true.

The pragmatic asks only: what can I do about bio-life suffering (BLS)? A thoughtful pragmatic adds to the search for a cure that of soul-life suffering (SLS).

A more thoughtful person asks: why is there either form of suffering, especially SLS?

A hopeful person hopes that asking the SLS “why question” will lead to what can be done about both BLS and SLS.

the Bible’s Book of Job, likely the oldest writing in the world, addresses all of these questions. The “answers,” such as are available to us, are embedded in that longish book, one of the longest in the Bible. But, you must be patient in reading the text, and looking behind the text. The charts and studies on this website are my best attempt at aiding both actions.
